Callum, our chef has over a decade of international experience in the industry and is passionate about creating classic French flavoursome dishes that leave our customers satisfied every time.

We may have a new home, but the menu is as familiar as it’s always been. Chef Callum Brewin and our team have brought all the favourites across, including the steak tartare – made with organic grass-fed eye fillet - which has been on the menu for 44 years and is still served in the same classic way as either an entrée or main. New additions include caviar, which can be ordered with accompaniments or as a bump. Signature dishes include twice-baked French onion cheese souffle, steak frites and crème brulee. A favourite for two is the Chateaubriand served with a peppercorn jus and béarnaise sauce, with hand-cut, triple cooked chunky potatoes with green beans.
When it comes to drinks, there’s a new seasonal cellar collection with wines worth celebrating. Instead of Veuve, sip on a 2015 Pierre Gimonnet, Cramant Grand Cru, a deep and concentrated Champagne with fantastic mineral freshness. Red wine lovers will make a beeline for the 2017 Château D’Issan, 3ème Grand Cru Classé, from Margaux in Bordeaux, France, a full-bodied wine with beautifully balanced tanins and refreshing acidity. The new space includes fabulous new cocktails and all the loved classics. Sip on a Kir Royal, Champagne and crème de cassis, with a dozen oysters or a French Martini complimented with a creamy chicken liver parfait with confiture de figues and red onion confit.
Inside, the interior, designed by Ar Huis, the venue takes inspiration from European wine bars of 1950s. The leather banquettes are a deep red. The dark brown wood, copper trims and arched mirrors have a romantic, old-school meets new-school classic French feel. Every detail feels thoughtful, from the tone of the green walls to the use of colours and traditional white tablecloths and napkins, to the tiling and arches on the walls. The space is warm and inviting, so it’s perfect for date night to a large group or an intimate gathering, be it a special or celebratory occasion and is suited to any demographic, be it the young chic diner to the young at heart!
Our new venue is ideal for that special occasion or corporate event. We can host events from as little as 8 people up to 60 pax, offering venue exclusivity. Macleay St.Bistro is the perfect venue for any event large or small, be it be it a 21st, 30th, 50th or even to celebrate a century birthday celebration. Our new home is that perfect venue for an intimate sit down gathering with your loved ones and is a favourite for sophisticated corporate events. We offer a set menu of 3 courses for $125 plus $15 for cheese and house made chocolate truffles to finish. For each booking we offer complimentary sides for the table and guests.
